Wang Chung is an English New Wave band whose song "True Love" appeared in the episode "Junk Love" of the show Miami Vice.

CareerEdit

Wang Chung was formed in 1979 with members Jack Hues, Nick Feldman, and Darren Costin as Huang Chung. The group had little to no success in their early years, with no albums or singles charting, during that time sax player Dave Burnand joined and the band became a quartet, and in 1982 Costin left the group. That same year the group's name was changed to Wang Chung (to make it easier for audiences, especially Americans, to pronounce) and released their album Points on a Curve (featuring "True Love"), including their first two Billboard Top 40 singles; "Don't Let Go" and "Dance Hall Days". The band also recorded the soundtrack to the 1985 film To Live and Die in L.A., and Costin left the group, making the band a duo. Their 1986 album Mosaic featured the group's only two Top 10 singles, Let's Go! and Everybody Have Fun Tonight (#2, featuring a video directed by Godley and Creme). The group disbanded in 1990 after one more unsuccessful album, then reunited in 1997 for a greatest hits album, and periodically tours, but no new studio albums were released until their 2010 EP, Abducted By The 80s and their 2012 album Tazer Up!.

NotesEdit

  • Wang Chung performed the score for the 1985 film To Live and Die in L.A., a movie that has often been compared to Miami Vice in terms of style and concept. The film also featured Miami Vice guest stars Debra Feuer, John Pankow, Dean Stockwell and John Turturro. In fact, at one point Michael Mann unsuccessfully attempted to sue the movie's production team for allegedly plagiarising the idea of Miami Vice.
