Walter Gotell (March 15, 1924 - May 5, 1997) is a German-Britsh actor in both movies and television. While he appeared in the show Miami Vice as Max Klizer, gun supplier in the episode "When Irish Eyes Are Crying", he is best known for playing James Bond's enemy General Gogol, head of the KGB in six Bond movies, from 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me until 1987's The Living Daylights.

Early life and CareerEdit

Gotell was born in Bonn, Germany, but his family emigrated to the U.S. after Adolf Hitler and the Nazis came to power. His first acting role was in 1942's The Goose Steps Out. His early roles were mainly as German henchmen, but his first appearance in a major motion picture came in 1951's The African Queen. He later appeared in The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Guns of Navarone, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, and The Boys From Brazil. He also appeared in mumerous British television series in guest roles. He also appeared on American television's The Fall Guy, The A-Team, MacGyver, The X-Files, and Cagney & Lacey, among other series. His final role was in the movie Prince Valiant (with Ron Perlman).

James BondEdit

Gotell appeared in seven James Bond movies, starting with 1963's From Russia With Love as Morenzy, the SPECTRE agent who kills agent Kronsteen (the chessmaster) with a poisoned dart in his shoe. Gotell would be recast as KGB General Gogol in The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only (featuring the theme sung by Sheena Easton), Octopussy, A View To A Kill (with Grace Jones), and The Living Daylights (with Jeroen Krabbe).

Personal Life and DeathEdit

Gotell was a businessman and used his acting money to help in his business interests. He died from cancer in 1997, leaving a daughter, Carol (born 1960).
