Viggo Peter Mortensen, Jr. (born October 20, 1958, New York City, New York) is an American actor and author, who appeared as Metro-Dade Detective Eddie Trumbull in the episode "Red Tape" of the series Miami Vice.

Career[]

Mortensen began his career in theater before jumping into TV, appearing in the mini-series George Washington, followed by appearances on an ABC Afterschool Special and Search For Tomorrow, before his movie career took off. Vice was his most recent TV appearance.

Mortensen's movie career began in Witness (with Brent Jennings), followed by roles in Fresh Horses (with Patti D'Arbanville), Young Guns II (with Lou Diamond Phillips and Jack Kehoe), Boiling Point (with Wesley Snipes and Paul Gleason), Carlito's Way (with John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman), The Prophecy (with J.C. Quinn and Amanda Plummer), Daylight (with Dan Hedaya, Jay O. Sanders, and Jo Anderson), the 1998 version of Psycho (with James Remar and Philip Baker Hall), and 28 Days (with Steve Buscemi) before his appearances as "Aragorn" in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He received an Oscar nomination for his role in Eastern Promises, then Mortensen's most recent movie appearances in The Road, A Dangerous Method, On the Road (with Steve Buscemi and Coati Mundi), Captain Fantastic, for which he received his second Oscar nomination, Green Book for which he received his third Oscar nomination, Falling and The Dead Don't Hurt (both Mortensen wrote and directed as well as starred in),

Mortensen has also written seventeen books of poetry, painting, and photography between 1993 and 2010.

Personal Life[]

Mortensen spent most of his Childhood in Argentina, when he acquired a fluent proficiency in Spanish, and also grew up as a fan of San Lorenzo de Almagro Football Club. Mortensen married X singer Exene Cervenka in 1987 until their 1997 divorce, they have one son, Henry Blake Mortensen (born 1988), then entered a relationship with Spanish Ariadna Gil in 2009.
