  • The Jazz Singer was originally released in 1927 and was the first successful "talkie" motion picture, credited with beginning the end of the silent era. It was remade three times, twice in movies: 1952 (starring Danny Thomas & Peggy Lee) and again in 1980 (starring Neil Diamond, Sir Laurence Olivier, Lucie Arnaz, and Brion James in a minor role, and once in 1959 for television (starring Jerry Lewis).
