  • The song pays tribute to classic R&B singers of the era: Lou Rawls, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, James ("the king of them all") Brown and the song's co-writer, Otis Redding.
  • This was Conley's only foray into Billboard's Top 10. He would hit the Top 40 two more times, once more in 1967 and once in 1968.
