"Space Invader" is a song performed by The Pretenders, recorded on the album Pretenders in 1980. The song appeared in the Miami Vice episode "Trust Fund Pirates".

  • "Space Invader" includes sound effects from the classic video game "Space Invaders", released by Midway in 1978 and is credited with starting (along with Pac-Man and Donkey Kong) the video arcade craze of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
  • Lani was playing "Space Invaders" during the sequence the song appears. Video arcades were a popular teenage hangout in the 1980s (featured prominently in the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High's opening credit sequence.
  • Two of the band's performers (and both writers of the song) passed away within one year of each other, Honeyman-Scott in 1982 and Farndon in 1983, both from drug overdoses).
