Brenda Shannon Greene (born May 2, 1958, Washington, D.C.) is an American dance/R&B singer known as Shannon, whose song "Do You Wanna Get Away?" appeared in the episode "Killshot" of the series Miami Vice'.

CareerEdit

Brenda Shannon Greene began her career while attending York College and toured with the New York Jazz Ensemble, then was introduced to Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa, who produced her debut album and single, Let The Music Play, which became her signature song and reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as #1 on the Dance chart. The song introduced what would become known as "Freestyle Music", a Latin-based dance beat which began in Miami and New York City that lasted from the mid-1980s until the early 1990s. However, her chart success was short-lived, she has only two other singles, "Do You Wanna Get Away?" and "Give Me Tonight" which charted on the Hot 100 (though both songs reached #1 on the Dance chart), and left her record label in 1987. She did not produce another studio album until 1999 (after Shannon was profiled on VH-1's One Hit Wonders show), participated in the 2006 Freestyle Extravaganza show with Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam and Stevie B, among others. Shannon occasionally performs live, but has not released an album since 2007's A Beauty Returns.
