Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5

Season 1 of Miami Vice introduced the show's trademark style of highlighting important scenes with music, and featured 75 songs during the course of its 22 episodes.

Most of the music featured is light, popular fare, in line with the overall light tone of the episodes, and there is an emphasis on tracks that were hit singles at the time -- in contrast to later seasons, where much of the music featured would be more obscure. The season also features a large number of Latin salsa, mambo and merengue tracks, highlighting the diverse cultural makeup of Miami.

Notes

  • Brian Ray's "Today's a Beginning" was written exclusively for season 1 of the show.
  • Several songs are performed 'live' by a house band covering another musician's work; season 1 would be the only season where this occurs, as later it became common practice for the original artist to make a guest live appearance.
  • Most songs used in an episode (two-hour): 9 - "Brother's Keeper"
  • Most songs used in an episode (one-hour): 6 - "Rites of Passage"
  • Least songs used in an episode: 1 - "Golden Triangle (Part I)"
  • Average number of songs per episode: 3.41
  • Most songs by the same artist: 3 - The Reds, all in "Rites of Passage"
