Ronald James Taylor (October 16, 1952 - January 16, 2002) is an American actor and singer. He appeared in the show Miami Vice as Linus Oliver, drug dealer in the episode "Calderone's Return (Part I)".

Early Life/CareerEdit

Taylor began his acting career with a role in 1983's Trading Places (with Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Gleason, and Tom Mardirosian). His first TV appearances were on a special featuring comedian Robert Klein, and a voice role in My Little Pony.

Miami ViceEdit

Taylor appeared in Miami Vice as Linus Oliver, a drug dealer who was #7 on Calderone's hit list in the episode "Calderone's Return (Part I)". After identifying his contact, Carlos Mendez, Oliver was killed in front of his apartment by the Argentinian assassin, Ludivcio Armstrong.

After ViceEdit

Taylor teamed back up with Michael Mann with a guest-starring role in his other series Crime Story, then appeared in other TV series including Night Court, Wiseguy, China Beach, Twin Peaks, Home Improvement, then one of his more memorable roles as the voice of Bleeding Gum Murphy on The Simpsons, and as a Klingon chef in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. On stage, he originated the role of Audrey II in the off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, and his performance in It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues in 1999 secured him a Tony nomination for Best Actor, one of four Tony nominations for the play. His vocal talents were showcased by performing with Etta James, Sheila E., Billy Idol, and others. His final film appearance was in 2001's Ritual.

Personal Life/DeathEdit

During the run of Blues he suffered a mild stroke, but returned to the stage five weeks later. Taylor died of a heart attack on January 16, 2002. He is survived by his widow Deborah Sharpe and a son, Adamah. The Simpsons episode "Sweets and Sour Marge" was dedicated to him.
