Richard A. Colla directed the episode "Calderone's Return (Part I)" for the series Miami Vice.


Colla began his career as a director in the 1962 short subject The Soldier, then became an actor in 1965, appearing on the soap opera Days of our Lives, then returned to directing in the western series The Legend of Jesse James (also wrote the episode), Gunsmoke, and The Virginian, then moved to other series, including The Name of the Game (with Veronica Cartwright), McCloud (with Gregory Sierra), Ironside, the pilot movie for the original Battlestar Galactica, Trapper John, M.D., CHiPs, Spenser: For Hire, Hunter, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and a number of TV movies. His last directorial appearance was for the 2000 TV movie Growing Up Brady.
