Murray Phillips is the host of The Murray Phillips Show, a talk/tabloid show airing in Miami. In 1988 Phillips had as a guest a recently paroled rapist, Alan Beaks, to discuss whether a convicted sex offender could have been rehabilitated. The D.A., Frieda Lewis (who prosecuted Beaks), opined she felt Beaks was released early because he was the son of a wealthy family instead of being truly reformed. Phillips fanned the flames by arranging to call his victim, Ellen Mason, on live TV, then causing a media circus by showing up at Mason's residence, cameras and Beaks in tow, trying to get a public apology by Beaks to Mason, which failed. However, Phillips' next topic, on mercenaries, did inspire Mason to contact one to take Beaks out.
