Miami Vice is a 1985 soundtrack album containing music from the television series Miami Vice. It was the first of three soundtrack compilations relating to the show, containing a selection of popular and score music taken from season 1 and season 2 of the show.
When released, the album enjoyed huge success, bolstered by the "Miami Vice Theme" and "You Belong to the City" singles, which reached #1 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. The album spent 11 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, a record for a TV soundtrack that still stands. It was also the biggest selling TV soundtrack until High School Musical broke that record in 2006. Due to the album's immense success, it was followed by Miami Vice II in 1986 and Miami Vice III in 1988.
Notes[]
- Chaka Khan's "Own the Night", Glenn Frey's "You Belong to the City" and Grandmaster Melle Mel's "Vice" were written exclusively for the show and have only ever appeared on Miami Vice soundtrack albums.
- All of the above tracks were released as singles in 1985 to promote the album, along with the "Miami Vice Theme".
- The three original Miami Vice soundtrack albums are also available in a box set as Miami Vice: The Ultimate Collection.
