Matthew Cowles (September 28, 1944 - May 22, 2014) was an American actor, who appeared in the show Miami Vice as an unnamed man on a payphone who ripped off Tubbs' drug deal, then was shot by Trudy Joplin after a car chase in the episode "The Dutch Oven".

Career[]

Cowles was born in New York City, New York. He began his career on Broadway, appearing in the play Malcolm in 1966. He made his film debut on the TV series NYPD in 1969, and his movie debut that same year in Me, Natalie (with Bob Balaban, also the film debut for Al Pacino).

Cowles was married to actress Christine Baranski from 1983 until his death from congestive heart failure on May 22, 2014, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 69. The couple had two children: Lily (born 1984) and Isabelle (born 1987).
