Guns N' Roses (aka GNR) is an American heavy metal band whose song "Paradise City" appeared in the episode "Leap of Faith" of the series Miami Vice.

The band was formed in 1985 by combining members of the Los Angeles-area metal bands Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns, as well as the names into Guns N' Roses. Their 1987 debut album, Appetite For Destruction, became their biggest selling album, totaling 28 million copies worldwide. Three singles, "Sweet Child O' Mine" (#1), "Paradise City" (#5), and "Welcome To The Jungle" (#7) reached the Top 10 and the album topped the charts as well, one of the first heavy metal albums to do so. Their followup, GNR Lies featured their first power ballad, Patience, which also reached the Top 10, and a highly successful Appetite for Destruction tour ensued. But the band, like so many of their genre during the 1980s, were heavy into recreational drug and alcohol use, which reached a peak when Rose and Slash appeared on live TV, visibly intoxicated, and used profanities, and the band decided to clean up their act after Rose decreed he would end the band if the drug/alcohol use was not stopped. Adler was fired during sessions for Use Your Illusion I and II due to his drug abuse issues. The two albums made GNR the first and only act to debut on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with two new albums in the #1 (II) and #2 (I) positions, and the singles "Don't Cry" and "November Rain"--lasting 8:56--all reached the Top 10. Following the tour for Use Your Illusion and the album The Spaghetti Incident?, the band took a hiatus that lasted until 1999 (the acrimony among the original members that still exists nearly 20 years later caused Rose to request the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not induct him with the rest of the group, which was politely declined by the HOF), when Rose reformed GNR with an entirely new backing band, with Rose being the only original member, and while the band released tracks that were reputed to be on a new album, Chinese Democracy (in the works since 1994 per Rose), the album was not released until 2008, with the title track becoming the band's first Top 40 single since 1992's "November Rain". The band continues to tour and make appearances throughout the world, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
