The Glenn Miller Orchestra is an American Big Band whose song "Bugle Call Rag" was featured in the episode "Freefall" of the series Miami Vice.

Career[]

The orchestra was founded in 1937 by band-leader Glenn Miller (1904-1944, disappeared) and had several hit standards, including "In The Mood", "Moonlight Serenade", "Tuxedo Junction", "Maple Leaf Rag", "Bugle Call Rag", and "Chattanooga Choo-Choo". After Miller's disappearance during World War II in 1944, Tex Beneke, lead tenor sax, took over as band-leader until 1956, when the Miller estate replaced him with Ray McKinley, who played with Miller in his Army Air Force band. Since 1956 the band has performed under numerous leaders with numerous personnel changes, and continues to perform live concerts to this day. As of 2019, Nick Hilscher is the band-leader and male vocalist.
