Georg Stanford Brown (born June 24, 1943) is a Cuban actor and director, who directed the episodes "The Great McCarthy" and "Golden Triangle (Part I)" for the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
Brown was born in Havana, Cuba. He began his acting career in the 1966 movie How to Steal a Million, followed by roles in The Comedians, Bullitt, Stir Crazy, House Party 2 (with Iman), and his most recent appearance in Imps*.
His television career is more extensive, beginning with Dragnet 1968, followed by Here Come The Brides (with David Soul), The Bold Ones, Mannix, Room 222, and Mission: Impossible (directed by Paul Krasny), before beginning his first starring role as LAPD Officer Terry Webster in the police drama The Rookies, that lasted four seasons (and included a cross-over episode on the series S.W.A.T.). After The Rookies ended, Brown was cast as Tom Harvey, great-grandson of Kunta Kinte and great-grandfather of author Alex Haley in the mini-series Roots, and its' sequel, Roots: The Next Generations (with Pam Grier, Brown also directed). More guest appearances followed, including Cagney & Lacey (featuring his wife, Tyne Daly, and Miguel Ferrer), and Police Squad! before appearing as the slave Grady in the mini-series North and South. He also appeared in Matlock, Malcolm & Eddie, The District, Nip/Tuck, and his most recent TV role in the movie Mystery Woman: Vision of a Murder.
Brown began directing during the run of The Rookies, heading up four episodes of the series, his other directing credits include Starsky & Hutch (with Paul Michael Glaser, David Soul, and Antonio Fargas), The Paper Chase, Charlie's Angels, Cagney & Lacey (for which he won an Emmy for Outstanding Directorial Achievement), Hill Street Blues (for which he was nominated for two Emmys in the same category), Dynasty, and numerous TV movies.
Personal Life[]
Brown married actress Tyne Daly in 1966 until their divorce in 1990. They have three children: Alisabeth (born 1968), Kathyrne (born 1971, herself an actress), and Alexandra (born 1985).
