Gary Michael Cole (born September 20, 1956) is an American actor, who appeared in the show Miami Vice as Jackson Crane, smuggler, friend of fellow smuggler Jimmy, and engaged to Lani Mueller (played by Nicole Fosse) in the episode "Trust Fund Pirates".


Cole was born in Park Ridge, Illinois. He began his acting career in high school, performing as Snoopy in the play You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, then attended Illinois State University, majoring in drama with fellow actors Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne) and John Malkovitch (In The Line of Fire, Being John Malkovitch). He appeared with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and performed in off-Broadway plays in New York City. Cole was considered for the role of James "Sonny" Crockett in Vice before Don Johnson won the part.

Cole made his film debut in the 1983 TV movie Heart of Steel, and his movie debut in 1985's To Live and Die In L.A. (with Debra Feuer, John Turturro, and Dean Stockwell). His other movie appearances include Lucas (with Guy Boyd), In The Line of Fire, The Brady Bunch Movie and its' sequels A Very Brady Sequel and The Brady Bunch In The White House (all as Mike Brady), Santa Fe (with Tony Plana), Office Space, One Hour Photo, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (with Ben Stiller), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Pineapple Express (with James Remar), The Chicago 8 (with Philip Baker Hall), A Good Funeral (with Kelly Lynch), The Last Rites of Joe May (with Dennis Farina), and his most recent film appearance, 2015's Hot Air.

His TV career consists of appearances in Moonlighting (with Bruce Willis), Touched By An Angel, Monk, Karen Sisco (with Frank Pesce), Law & Order: SVU (with Richard Belzer, episode with Ned Eisenberg), Psych, Chuck, The Good Wife (episode with Joe Morton), and The Closer (with Kyra Sedgwick). Cole has also appeared in starring roles on the series' Midnight Caller (three seasons from 1986-89, with Mykelti Williamson), American Gothic (one season in 1995-96), Crusade (one season, 1999), Family Affair (one season, 2002), Wanted (one season, 2005), the animated series' Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law (37 episodes from 2000-07), Kim Possible (four seasons from 2002-07), Family Guy (38 episodes, 2000-15). He has had recurring roles in Desperate Housewives, Entourage, The West Wing, The Good Wife, Archer, Veep, and Mercy Street.

Personal LifeEdit

Cole married fellow actress Teddi Siddall (Forever Strong, Prizzi's Honor) in 1993, they have one daughter, Mary, who has autism. Cole works with autism-related charities, and Siddall took several years off from acting to care for her.
