Elmer Bernstein (April 4, 1922 - August 18, 2004) was an American composer whose work appeared in over 200 movies and television shows. His "Theme from The Magnificent Seven" appeared in the episode "The Cows of October" of the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
Bernstein wrote the score to hundreds of movies and TV shows, including the theme to The Magnificent Seven, which was used in the 1960 film and all of its' sequels, and its' 1998-2000 TV version, as well as in commercials for Marlboro cigarettes. Some of his other notable scores include To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Escape, The Ten Commandments, the opening theme to the TV National Geographic Specials, then got into comedy in the movies National Lampoon's Animal House, Ghostbusters, Stripes, and Airplane!. Bernstein won an Oscar for the score to the 1967 film Thoroughly Modern Millie, an Emmy for the TV short The Making of the President 1960, and nominated for two Tonys and five Grammys. Bernstein died of cancer on August 18, 2004, in Ojai, California, at the age of 82.
