Christopher John Davison (born October 15, 1945, Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe Province, Argentina) is a British/Irish singer-songwriter known as Chris de Burgh, whose songs "The Leader", "The Vision", and "What About Me?" (in "Everybody's In Showbiz"), and "Carry Me (Like A Fire In Your Heart)" (in "To Have And To Hold") appeared in the series Miami Vice.
Career
Edit
de Burgh's father was a British diplomat, and they moved to Ireland and it was his mother's maiden name, de Burgh, that he adopted as his professional name. He began singing professionally in 1974, touring with Supertramp, and recording his debut album, Far Beyond His Castle Walls in 1975. He released four albums in the 1970s that did not garner any attention in England or America, but he was selling well in Europe and South America. In 1982 his album, The Getaway, finally introduced English and American audiences to his music, his single "Don't Pay The Ferryman" reached the Top 40 in both the UK and the US. In 1986 his single "The Lady In Red" was de Burgh's best selling song, reaching #1 in the UK and #3 in the US, his album Into The Light (featuring "The Vision", "The Leader", and "What About Me?") reached the Top 40 in both locations as well. His 1988 album, Flying Colours (featuring "Carry Me (Like A Fire In Your Heart)") debuted at #1 on the UK chart but failed to reach the Top 200 Albums chart in the US. de Burgh never charted in the US after Into The Light, but retains a worldwide following after nineteen studio albums over nearly 40 years.
Personal Life
Edit
de Burgh married his wife Diana in 1977, they have three children; sons Hubie and Michael, and daughter Rosanna (born 1984), who won the 2003 Miss World competition representing Ireland. His 1986 song "For Rosanna" was written for her.
