Charles Braun Ludlam (April 12, 1943 - May 28, 1987) was an American actor, director and playwright, who appeared in the show Miami Vice as an unnamed tranvestite pusher who, along with his partner (played by Everett Quinton) refuse to do business with Crockett and Tubbs in the episode "The Prodigal Son".

Ludlam was born in Floral Park, New York. He began performing in community theaters starting in high school, and after graduating from Hofstra University, Ludlam founded the Ridiculous Theatrical Company in New York City in 1967 (and folded ten years after his death). His first plays were inchoate exercises: however, starting with Bluebeard he began to write more structured works, which, though they were pastiches of gothic novels, Shakespeare, Wagner, popular culture, old movies, and anything else that might get a laugh, had more serious import. Ludlam usually appeared in his plays, and was particularly noted for his female roles. Due to his theatre commitments, he rarely appeared in film, appearing in the TV shows Oh, Madeline and Tales From The Darkside (his final film appearance), as well as movie roles in Imposters, The Big Easy, and Forever, Lulu (with Annie Golden & Paul Gleason). His biggest play is The Mystery of Irma Vep, performed by Ludlam and Everett Quinton, in which the actors rapidly play a series of seven gothic roles, and to perform the play, all actors must be of the same sex to ensure cross-dressing. By 1991 Irma Vep was the most produced play in the US.

Personal Life/DeathEdit

Ludlam was openly gay, he & his lover Everett Quinton were together from 1975 until Ludlam discovered he had AIDS in March, 1987, which led to his death on May 28, 1987, in New York City's St. Vincent Hospital from AIDS-related pneumonia.
