Bernard King (born December 4, 1956) is a retired American professional basketball player, who made his only TV acting appearance in the show Miami Vice as Matt Ferguson, son of Judge Roger Ferguson (played by Bill Russell) and basketball star with the Florida Sunblazers in the episode "The Fix".
Career[]
King was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the University of Tennessee on a basketball scholarship, and became a star (his number 53 was retired by the school in 2007), then was drafted 7th overall in the 1977 NBA Draft by the New York (later New Jersey) Nets of the NBA. He played for five teams in his sixteen year career: The Nets, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Washington Bullets. His most productive years were with the Knicks, scoring 50 points in back to back games (first time since 1964) in January, 1984, and that December, he scored 60 against his former Nets team. However, his 1984-85 season was curtailed by a torn ACL in March, 1985, which finished his season and also missed the entire 1985-86 season with the injury (which was the period King made his Vice appearance). The injury ended his explosive cut to the basket and seriously limited his production, and finally retired after the 1992-93 season. He scored 19,655 points in his career. In 2013 King was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (joining his on-screen father Bill Russell). He only made one other acting appearance, in the 1979 movie Fast Break (with Reb Brown).
